The Israeli military said Wednesday it shot at a Palestinian who was firing a machine gun at them at their home in the occupied West Bank city of Bethlehem.
The military said in a statement that the Palestinian, identified by the military as Mohammed al-Banna, was firing on Israeli forces.
Al-Bana was shot in the back of the head.
The statement said that Al-Nasser, a 29-year-old resident of Hebron, “did not stop firing at Israeli forces, despite Israeli soldiers’ warnings.”
Israeli officials have said that Israel is “prepared for any incident” in the West Bank, but it is not clear when Al-Zahrani was shot.
Al Jazeera’s Ben Goldfarb, reporting from Bethlehem, said that after Al-Khattab was shot, Palestinian men and boys “began to flee” towards the nearby refugee camp of Qalandia.
Goldfarbs report also noted that the Israeli military has been cracking down on Palestinian protesters who block roads and attempt to cross into Israel from the occupied territories.
