Indian Space Research Organisation, awarded the prestigious award of recognition to the Emergency Medicine Department of Apollo Hospitals Bangalore; Health Research, in recognition of long contributions to the development of patient safety protocols for the emergency department. Health Quest (Enabling Health Quality Upgradation through Space Technology) is a collaborative project of the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO); Association of Healthcare Providers India (AHPI) and Society for Emergency Medicine India (SEMI). This zero error emergency medicine protocol will serve as the standard operating procedure for hospital emergency departments across India.
Apollo Hospital, Bangalore; Recognized for successfully implementing ultimate patient safety standards while providing expert input. It has also been hailed as the best performing hospital in all phases of the study.
“ISRO space scientists and emergency medicine experts; Since 2017 there have been several rounds of brainstorming to explore the adoption of ISRO’s zero error principles in emergency medicine. Together we have been able to integrate best practices from both aerospace technology and healthcare domains to make emergency department care safer and better for our patients,” said Dr. Venkatesh, Head of Emergency Medicine, Apollo Hospitals, Bangalore and Immediate Past President of Society for Emergency Medicine India and Apollo Hospital, Bangalore Emergency Team.
These Heath QUEST recommendations were adopted by partner hospitals across the country, including Apollo Hospitals, Bangalore, and greatly benefited with immediate improvement in overall patient care. The next version of the recommendations will be made available to all hospitals in India, once the current implementation is completed in selected hospitals.
