The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) has conducted several feasibility studies for a sub-orbital space tourism mission, according to Dr. Jitendra Singh, Minister of State for Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions and Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).
Dr. Singh recently responded to Aam Aadmi Party MP Sanjeev Arora’s question on space tourism in the Rajya Sabha. The MP asked whether ISRO has plans for space tourism and if so, how much budgetary funds have been allocated for this purpose.
The minister replied: “India’s first human space flight program Gaganyaan aims to demonstrate human spaceflight capabilities in low earth orbit, a precursor to future space tourism programmes. ISRO has studied several feasibility studies for a sub-orbital space tourism mission. After the completion of the Gaganyaan mission, activities towards space tourism will be intensified.”
Sharing this information on Tuesday, Arora said, “It is indeed a matter of pride for the people of the country that ISRO is in the process of launching space tourism.” “This clearly shows that India is entering a new era,” he remarked. The AAP MP added that as per available information, ISRO pursues international cooperation and relations with 61 countries in various domains of space activities.
Arora said earlier confirmed news was that the Indian National Space Promotion and Accreditation Center (IN-SPACE) has been created as a single window agency under the Department of Space to promote, handhold and approve private sector activities in space. domain, including young entrepreneurs and students. IN-SPACE will come up with mechanisms to share technical facilities and expertise available at ISRO centers with private companies.
