A French delegation of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs visited the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) headquarters in Bangalore.
The delegation, led by committee chairman Jean-Louis Borlange, visited the ISRO headquarters on Thursday as part of an overall India tour coordinated by the Ministry of External Affairs.
Director of Human Space Flight Center of ISRO R. ISRO and Department of Space delegation, led by Ummaheshwaran, briefed the French delegation about the Indian space programme, the development of the Gaganyaan program and the opening up of the space sector in India.
“While appreciating the long-standing bilateral space cooperation and the opportunities available to industry in the space sector, the French parliamentary delegation agreed to work for continued support from the French government to further strengthen India-France space relations,” ISRO said.
In April 2021, ISRO and the French national space agency CNES signed an agreement to collaborate on the Gaganyaan mission by sharing its expertise in space medicine.
According to the agreement, ISRO asked CNES to help it prepare for the Gaganyaan mission and act as its single European liaison in this domain. In addition, CNES will train India’s Flight Physicians and CAPCOM (Capsule Communication) mission control team at CADMOS Center in France to develop microgravity applications and space operations at CNES in Toulouse and European Astronaut Center in Cologne, Germany.
