Students will have an opportunity to learn about remote sensing and geoinformation science in the Basics of Remote Sensing Technology course. The course is designed following NCERT syllabus. Enrolled students will gain knowledge from scientists and engineers posted at various ISRO centers.
In the Remote Sensing course, enrolled students will learn Introduction to Remote Sensing, Phases of Remote Sensing, Electromagnetic Radiation (EMR), Geostationary and Sun Synchronous Satellites, Types of Remote Sensors, Multispectral Scanners, Resolution, Satellite Power, Data Resolution. Product, interpretation of satellite images.
Enrolled students will learn about the definition of remote sensing, its applications, the physics involved, the difference between active and passive sensors, and other important aspects of remote sensing. Further, applicants will gain knowledge on classification of remotely sensed data products, elements of image interpretation, nature of satellite imagery and how it can be used to monitor environmental issues.
Geographic Information Systems courses include-
- Geographic Information System or GIS
- Forms of geographic information
- Advantages of GIS
- Elements of GIS
- Spatial data formats – raster and vector data
- Sequence of GIS activities
- Scanner
- Entering attribute data
- Data validation and editing
- Geographic Data: Linkage and Matching
- Spatial analysis
- Spatial analysis operations
How to apply?
Step 1- Visit the official website at jigyasa.iirs.gov.in/login to register for ISRO’s free course. Provide the requested information.
Step 2- If selected students need to take prior approval from their respective school or college
Step 3- Through email, eligible students will get online course date and time
The Geographic Information and Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) course introduces students to the basic concepts and applications of geoscience. As per the NCERT syllabus, the course includes an introduction to Geographic Information Systems and its benefits, differences between spatial and non-spatial data, how to list the components of a GIS and its uses. Through engaging lectures, the course aims to educate secondary and tertiary students about geographic information science and how it can be used to analyze the Earth and its surroundings.
