Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) is organizing a young scientist programme, Yuva Vigyan Karkrama (YUVIKA) to impart basic knowledge about space technology, space science and space applications to class IX students. Registration for the program starts today.
ISRO said it developed the program to ‘capture them young’ and is expected to encourage more students to pursue science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM)-based research and careers.
The UVICA program will be conducted between May 15 and 26 at seven centers – ISRO-Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (IIRS) Dehradun, Vikram Sarabhai Space Center (VSSC) Thiruvananthapuram, Satish Dhawan Space Center (SDSC) Sriharikota, UR Rao Satellite Center (URSC ) Bangalore, Space Application Center (SAC) Ahmedabad, National Remote Sensing Center (NRSC) Hyderabad and North-Eastern Space Application Center (NE-SAC) Shillong.
The space agency added that a minimum participation from each state and union territory would be ensured.
Participants will be selected based on parameters like marks obtained in class VIII or last conducted examination, performance in online quizzes, participation in science fairs, rank in Olympiad or equivalent, winners of sports competitions, scouts and guides. NCC, NSS members and those studying in village schools located in panchayat areas.
ISRO will bear the cost of course material, accommodation and boarding etc. during the entire course.
Interested students studying in Class 9 on 1 January 2023 within India are eligible to apply at www.isro.gov.in/YUVIKA.html. Last day of registration is April 3.
